DEPRESSION

Depression

are you a victim?

Depression is a psychological and emotional state characterized by fatigue, sadness, anger, withdrawal, and other symptoms such as insomnia, loss of appetite, palpitations, and a feeling of tightness in the chest. It is the most common mental illness in the world and can be serious, requiring treatment.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), ancient texts refer to a number of syndromes with specific names, including :

  • MEI HE QI or “plum stone syndrome”, with the distinctive feature of a knotted throat and the sensation of having something in the throat that bothers and is impossible to swallow.
  • YU ZHENG characterized by blockages leading to chest and abdominal pain, sadness, insomnia, frequent sighing, etc.
  • ZANG ZAO characterized by internal agitation with loss of emotional control, tendency to cry for no reason, insomnia, unusual behavior, frequent yawning, etc.

the causes of

depression

TCM recognizes the close relationship between body and mind, where the causes of imbalance can be both psychological (psychological trauma, stress, etc.) and physical (overwork, chronic illness, diet, hormones). For example, depression can result from a drop in thyroid hormone levels, illustrating a physical (hormonal) cause.

SOLUTIONS

IT EXISTS!

Western Medicine often uses antidepressants to treat depression, but they have drawbacks such as not resolving the underlying causes and undesirable side-effects (addictions, weight gain, etc.).

In TCM, there are many solutions:

  • Traditional Chinese pharmacopoeia (herbal medicine): Use of personalized herbal formulas adapted to each type of depression, advised by TCM specialists.
  • Chinese dietetics : recommended recipes, soups and dietary advice to support treatment.
  • Acupuncture : Energy rebalancing with fine needles or other techniques such as craniopuncture, auriculotherapy, electropuncture, or injection of vitamins B1 and B12 on acupuncture points.
  • Physical exercise, QI GONG or TA JI QUAN: help manage depression.
  • TUI NA : Using traditional Chinese medical massage movements to relieve depression.

TCM takes a holistic approach to depression, considering both body and mind. It encourages regular physical activity, dietary adaptation, and the use of natural remedies, recommended by experienced practitioners, to treat this mental disorder without side effects.
